Biography

Art is not only visual, but in the music, food and people of south Louisiana.  New Orleans is the birthplace of Cheri C. Fry and remains her inspiration on many levels.  Currently Cheri is intrigued with figures in ordinary minutes of their lives.  Variations in light creates moments allowing her to capture naturalness in her subjects.  Cheri’s paintings present warm realism in a painterly way with either oil, or watercolor layered to create texture and depth.   Cheri has won numerous awards and has exhibited in both regional and national oil and watercolor art competitions.  Her work is  held in many private collections.

At age 15, Cheri began formal study with a local artist where she learned the importance of thumbnail, and black and white studies for design and composition purposes.  While in high school she became an instructor for a children's art program in Baton Rouge and taught there for 15 years.   Over many years she became proficient in charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oil, and egg tempra painting.  Although her professional career followed another path, Cheri continued to study art.   Cheri earned an undergraduate, and post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and continues in her 29 year career as a nationally certified Speech Pathologist.    Residing in Denham Springs, Louisiana, she celebrates life as a wife and mother of three daughters, making time to paint daily.
In 2010 Cheri founded the "Krewe of Camille Art Party" whose mission is to provide fun painting opportunities for children and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital/Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, Tennessee, and the local Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge.  Creating, sharing and teaching art is Cheri's way of life.  Life is full of uncertainties, so why not paint!
