For more information contact:
Chris Jones by emailing chrisjonesthouart@gmail.com

Biography

Art is not only visual, but in the music, food and people of south Louisiana.  New Orleans is the birthplace of Cheri C. Fry and remains her inspiration on many levels.  Currently Cheri is intrigued with figures in ordinary minutes of their lives.  Variations in light creates moments allowing her to capture naturalness in her subjects.  Cheri’s paintings present warm realism in a painterly way with either oil, or watercolor layered to create texture and depth.   Cheri has won numerous awards and has exhibited in both regional and national oil and watercolor art competitions.  Her work is  held in many private collections.

At age 15, Cheri began formal study with a local artist where she learned the importance of thumbnail, and black and white studies for design and composition purposes.  While in high school she became an instructor for a children's art program in Baton Rouge and taught there for 15 years.   Over many years she became proficient in charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oil, and egg tempra painting.  Although her professional career followed another path, Cheri continued to study art.   Cheri earned an undergraduate, and post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and continues in her 29 year career as a nationally certified Speech Pathologist.    Residing in Denham Springs, Louisiana, she celebrates life as a wife and mother of three daughters, making time to paint daily.
In 2010 Cheri founded the "Krewe of Camille Art Party" whose mission is to provide fun painting opportunities for children and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital/Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, Tennessee, and the local Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge.  Creating, sharing and teaching art is Cheri's way of life.  Life is full of uncertainties, so why not paint!

Denham Springs Fine Art Association Painting 2014

Denham Springs Fine Art Association Painting 2014

"DOWN ON THE BAYOU" an acrylic painting done on  textured canvas.Painting size is 16" x 20".
The drawing for this painting  was done by Bonnie Smith Williams as a demo project.   Members of DSFAA painted the canvas as a program for the March meeting. Each member worked on the painting to use as a fund raiser for DSFAA.  All members who worked on the painting signed the back of the piece.  The painting of a swamp scene with a cabin was created using a limited color palette. It is pleasing to the eye and would fit in any room. For a one dollar donation your name will be added to become the owner of this painting and for five dollars your name will be added six times. The donations will be used to fund more art projects in schools and to help with equipment to hang shows for public viewing. During the year DSFAA organizes, promotes and sponsors,  projects to keep art in the public venue.  The painting will be given away at the December meeting. Contact any member if you are interested in putting your name in for the painting.

DSFAA General Meeting April 7, 2104

Denise Hall -Adams
De Lou Glass Designs LLC
Guest Speaker for April 2014

The Denham Springs Fine Art Association General Meeting will be held Monday, April 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building located at 941 Government Street in Denham Springs, LA. Denise Hall -Adams with De Lou Glass Designs, Denham Springs, LA will be our guest speaker for the night. Here is a little about the artist from her website:
My name is Denise Hall-Adams, I started learning about stained glass when I took a class to make a window for my bathroom. After that...I was hooked. I then learned to slump and fuse. Then I thought about all the beautiful glass going into our landfills. I try to incorporate some recycled glass into my projects.  Besides designing and fabricating window panels, we make garden art, useful bowls and platters, jewelry, and many more items. We use new and recycled glass for our creations.  We teach begining and advanced stained glass, fusing, mosaics, and will be adding other classes for art glass projects. Check our website for time and dates of our classes, or you can call 225-771-9878.
or you can visit her website:

I hope we will have a nice showing of members and guest. We will be discussing our upcoming Spring Show as well as other activities and events coming up. Please try to come and invite others too.
Thank you,

Tom Wallace Memorial Art Wall at Ochsners Medical Center

Elizabeth Thompson, Bonnie Williams, Derrell Robinson, Sarah Wallace and Gwin Brister
 Derrell Robinson
Gwin Brister

Remembering Tom Wallace
Elizabeth Thompson, Bonnie Smith Williams, Derrell Robinson, Sarah Wallace, Gwin Brister are in the photo. The group met to take down art and hang Derrell and Gwin's work for the month of March and April.  The afternoon  with Sarah Wallace and Amy Delany was spent remembering Tom and  giving Sarah a tour on what has been happening with the art wall. A number of people stopped while we were changing the paintings to say how much they loved seeing art on the wall. How it made their day brighter to have something interesting to view. Tom Wallace was responsible for getting artists work to and from Ochsner's hospital to hang on the art wall. He organized shows every two months and worked so hard to keep work on the wall. At his death the hospital named the wall the Tom Wallace Memorial Art Wall. At that time Elizabeth Thompson took over Tom's job of bringing the work to and from the artists. She organized the shows on the wall until 2013.  Bonnie Smith Williams is helping now, by maintaining a list of artists who want to display art on the wall. Many thanks to Amy Delany and the hospital for being supporters of the arts.

DSFAA February General Meeting Monday February 3, 2014

Our Denham Springs Fine Art Association General Meeting will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building at 941 Government Drive in Denham Springs. Our Guest speaker will be Marita Gentry and below is her bio and a little bit about her. As President of the club I would like to personally invite new and old  to come out and show support for the club and partake in some good food and an interesting program.
Thank you all!
Chris Bajon Jones
President of DSFAA

Artist -Marita Gentry

artist, illustrator, designer, teacher, person.

Hello,
Welcome to my world!  That is the song my husband sang to me as I came down the isle. That is what I say to you as you browse through my website.
What do I do?
I paint, illustrate, design, and teach art.
Why? Because it is a passion in my head I cant get a way from. I love to interpret a story....discover the humor in the character and bring it out. I like to design words.  I love color and the feel of a paint brush full of paint on the canvas.
Why? Because I am starting to like using my wacom pad and pencil...because I love to print out a new design and see if the colors are right.
Why? I teach because I enjoy passing on my love of creating. I enjoy encouraging people to be creative.  I love to welcome people to a new world.
Who? I am a little girl raised by an artist mom who taught me to believe I could do anything I thought I could.  I was lucky.
I grew up to marry a great guy who sings really wonderfully.  I grew up some more and had a daughter. She grew up to be beautiful and smart.
What did I do while we all grew up? Paint...at first just watercolors, then I painted oils, then I decided to try acrylics, then mixed media. I painted for years.  All this time I worked in several art galleries. I decided it was my turn. I stopped working to become a full time artist. Good thing that great guy had a good job.
I painted art! Things looked up.  I started teaching art. Things were looking much better.  I was very very lucky and illustrated a book.  I got more books.  Then I decided I wanted to design.  That is where I am now. I still paint, illustrate, teach, and now design.  I like having a large world. Welcome to my world.

About Me

Denham Springs Fine Art Association
DSFAA was formed in 1997: to encourage artists of all levels, to share knowledge, inspire, secure hanging space, to help artists continue painting, to be creative people, and never do anything to cause self doubt. We  do all of these things with kindness and the respect that each member deserves. We are fellow artist bonding together in unity to gain the most impact with the greatest effect in the community. The DSFAA meets the first Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Denham Springs / Walker Library.
